What our farm visitors say
Excellent butchery courses
I have just completed a comprehensive weekend covering the humane dispatch, processing and butchering of chickens, lamb and and pigs. Each course covers everything you need to know to be able to confidently process your own meat for home consumption. The courses focus on how to do each step safely, quickly and compassionately for both the animals involved and humans, and you get to take home a share of the meat that you have butchered to enjoy.
Rod and Matt who run the courses are very knowledgeable and approachable, and have the welfare of the animal top of mind to ensure that there is no suffering and that the meat produced is of top quality. To top it off, Bec provides scrumptious meals and snacks throughout the day. If this is something you want to be able to do, I’d highly recommend these courses.
Pretty good
I did the chicken, lamb and pork courses. got a lot of good info/advice and everyone was very friendly, welcoming and non-judgmental when it came to asking the ‘silly’ questions. Great yarns! And great homemade food for lunch!
Was overall a great experience!
Highly recommend. 🙂
Thanks for having me!

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Explore and Immerse?
Explore tours are shorter guided visits focused on seeing the farm, meeting animals and learning how it works. Immerse experiences are longer and more hands-on.
Are the experiences suitable for children?
Yes. Little Farmers is suited to children under 10, while Growing Farmers is suitable for ages 10 and over, including adults. Children must be accompanied by at least one paying adult.
What happens during a farm experience?
Activities vary with the programme, season, weather and needs of the animals. Your visit may include feeding animals, collecting eggs, exploring machinery and learning about regenerative farming and circular feeds.
What can we add to our booking?
You can add morning tea, a BBQ lunch, a Heritage Farms cap or a discounted farm value box. All additions must be selected and booked at the time you make your tour booking so we can prepare for your group.
What should we wear?
Enclosed shoes or gumboots are essential. Bring weather-appropriate clothing and expect uneven ground, mud and ordinary working-farm conditions.
What group sizes can you accommodate?
We can accommodate groups of up to 30 people. Please tell us your expected group size when enquiring so we can recommend the most suitable experience and plan appropriate supervision.
Do parents pay for Little Farmers?
Yes. Little Farmers is a shared family experience, so accompanying parents and adults are paying participants. Children must be accompanied by at least one paying adult.
When are farm experiences available?
Our usual experience days are Monday, Thursday and Friday, subject to farm operations, livestock needs and existing bookings.
Is the farm accessible for people with limited mobility?
This is working farmland with unpaved, uneven ground. Accessibility varies across the farm and can be affected by weather. Please contact us before booking to discuss individual mobility needs and what parts of the experience may be suitable.
Are toilets and parking available, and what happens in wet weather?
On-site parking and portable toilets are available. Experiences generally continue in wet weather, so bring a raincoat, boots and clothing suitable for real farm conditions. We will contact you if conditions make a visit unsafe.
How do I book?
Bookings are currently arranged directly so we can match you with the right experience and available dates. Online self-service booking will be added as the programme develops.
